The longest-enduring standardized college admissions test in the nation, the SAT has faced decades of controversy over bias and criticism for reducing aspiring college students to a test score. Discrepancies with standardized testing appear to be symptomatic of the inequality endemic to the education system. In 2005, the College Board added an 800-point writing section to the exam alongside its math and verbal reasoning sections. In this Jan. 17, 2016 file photo, a sign is seen at the entrance to a hall for a college test preparation class in Bethesda, Md. Alex Brandon/APThe College Board told CNN it has also done away with its esoteric vocabulary in the past decade.

Achieving success at an early age is impressive in any industry, but it's particularly awe-inspiring on Wall Street. Kuenzel, who started as an intern at hedge fund Citadel in 2018 and focused on quantitative research, spoke about his rise within Griffin's financial empire. It's a good lesson for how fixing issues at work is a surefire way to supercharge your career. The Fed and the SEC are investigating the work Goldman did with SVB in the lead-up to its failure, The Wall Street Journal reports. If you're suffering from pre-diabetes or obesity, intermittent fasting could be a good way to control your blood sugar.

As a part of a plea deal with prosecutors, the 33-year-old agreed to forfeit $1.3 million and serve six years in prison, 16 months of which may overlap with a five-year sentence she received in October in a separate Florida bank fraud case. Prosecutors said Miller used the identities of more than 10 people to fraudulently set up bank accounts and obtain more than $1 million in pandemic-related loans intended for small businesses. Originally from New York, Miller is the daughter of a former New York State Bar Association president and a graduate of the prestigious Horace Mann School. She was already facing charges in the separate Florida state court fraud case when she was arrested in May 2021 at a luxury apartment in Miami, where she had moved during the pandemic. A former roommate told New York magazine's Curbed that Santos made outlandish career claims. The ex roommate said Santos told him he was a successful model who was going to be in Vogue. He also said Santos claimed to be a journalist for a Brazilian news outlet. But according to a former roommate, Santos was making outlandish claims about his career long before then. (Insider contacted Globo to see if the news outlet had any record of Santos' employment, but did not receive a response.)
Embattled Rep.-elect George Santos arrived for his first day in Congress on Tuesday. Santos — who lied about his education, religion, and work background — was also seen dodging reporters. Later in the afternoon, Santos was loudly booed by Democrats when he cast a vote for California Rep. Kevin McCarthy to be House speaker, according to CBS News. On Tuesday evening, the chamber adjourned for the day and voting will resume at noon on Wednesday. In a previous campaign for Congress, Santos claimed he had attended Horace Mann School, a prestigious preparatory school in the Bronx.
But DeSantis and those around the country who are accusing teachers and schools of indoctrination are missing the obvious: All education is indoctrination to some degree, and whether you label school curricula education or indoctrination mostly depends on your point of view. The state’s Stop WOKE Act forbids instructors from teaching students that they should feel guilty about past injustices. In fact, the belief that education should impart certain values along with raw knowledge and skills motivated early advocates who saw universal public education as essential to democracy. Founders of traditional American public education like Horace Mann were committed to education as indoctrination in civic values. If Florida schools converted to such a system, perhaps DeSantis and anxious parents could learn to trust their children and put their minds at rest.
